	<title>PENTAGON MAY ADAPT TECHNOTHRILLER AUTHOR'S CONCEPTS FOR REAL-WORLD WARFARE</title>
<description>Defense Department officials including top Pentagon brass have reportedly been studying the imaginary battlefield scenarios envisioned by a writer of technothrillers in order to improve how the United States will fight future wars.

According to insiders, the thrillers of author David Alexander have provided the Joint Chiefs of Staff with important keys to the innovation of America's order of battle. Alexander's writings first came to the attention of the Defense Department with the release of his global action thriller Threatcon Delta: Assault on the Pentagon. Alexander's newest release, the just-published military action thriller, Snake Handlers, is viewed as a vision statement by all three service branches for proposed modernization of U.S. warfighting capability.

"Many of the scenarios and many of the weapons systems envisioned by Alexander in Snake Handlers seem to come out of top-secret Defense Department studies and wargaming exercises," a source close to the office of the JCS said. "What might be called the 'alternate universe of warfare' that Alexander writes about in Snake Handlers, with North Korea ready to launch nukes at the United States, a resurgent Soviet Union and terrorist regional armies are all possible developments that we've considered and are preparing to combat." Snake Handlers, the Pentagon official concluded, "Is more than a book to the Defense Department -- we consider it a war plan."</description>
